Five (5) organizations were given two consecutive trainings on Food Preparation and Basic Food Safety which was held at Victoria’s Farm, Balilihan, Bohol. These trainings were conducted to prepare them for the Abatan River Cruise.

    The ITS SAFE Project Manager, Ms. Yoradyl E. Israel, together with the BCCI President, Ms. Marietta S. Gasatan also attended the five (5)-day training/workshop on the Sector Unit Approach conducted by AFOS and German bfz. This is still part of the WE CAN Project of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  Ms. Israel focused on the Food Sector while Ms. Gasatan focused on Tourism.

    The Bohol Food Safety Team, together with Ms. Vina Antopina of DOST-Bohol, and ITS SAFE Staff were in Metro Manila last June 24-26, 2010 for the plant visits on HACCP and ISO 22000:2005 certified food companies. This is one of the team’s learning activities which is to observe actual operations and documentations on HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and ISO 22000:2005 (Food Safety Management Systems).

    This program is a partnership between Cebu Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the German AFOS Foundation for Entrepreneurial Development Cooperation. It aims to support trade and industry in the selected areas in the Visayas and Caraga region. The initial purpose is to provide capacity development for the chambers in the Visayas and North Mindanao in order to maintain their function as the voice of the business sector.

    The WE CAN Program has donated a laptop and LCD Projector to BCCI.

The forum was held at Holy Name University Gymnasium last March 5, 2010. The forum aimed to advocate the platforms of the candidates to the people. It was chaired by Trustee Loreto M. Palapos in coordination with Holy Name University Central Sudent Government.

    The successful event was duplicated with another forum in Panglao, Bohol. The Panglao Candidates’ Forum was co-organized by Zafra Cable, Alona Beach Community Association, Inc. (ABCAI), and Tri-Media Association.

Gasatan co-chaired the Bohol Eco-Tourism Conference held last January 23, 2010 at the Bohol Beach Club, Panglao, Bohol.
    The Conference was organized by the Ramos Peace and Develoment Foundation, Inc. which aims to provide fora for local government officials and private sector representatives from the tourism industry to share best practices and discuss possible solutions to challenges, both in policy and development in the fields of ecotourism and eco-productivity.
    It was in November 2009 that the RPDEV Chairman, Hon. Former President Fidel V. Ramos visited the ITS SAFE Center implemented by the BCCI.

Likewise, the election was supervised by the BCCI COMELEC Chair, Dr. Jose Oliver B. Yu.
    The incumbent President, Ms. Marietta S. Gasatan representing PRU LIFE UK was re-elected by the Board.
    The new set of Officers was inducted last May 6, 2010 at the Bohol Tropics Resort with the Bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, Most Rev. Leonardo Y. Medroso as the Inducting Officer.
    In her acceptance speech, President Gasatan is optimistic that with the help of all the Officers & Trustees, BCCI will prosper and become a true catalyst of the legitimate businesses in Bohol.

    BCCI has focused on training Jagna’s local carenderias to be at par with today’s standards for tourism. The Chamber facilitated training on food safety, thru the efforts of the BCCI President and International Culinary specialists on plating, menu and food presentation, with the active participation of Ms. Bea Zobel of the Ayala Foundation taking charge on improving the architectural designs of Jagna’s carenderias.

    It aims to leave a legacy of increased forest cover on Bohol’s denuded forestlands. The proposed project shall be a pilot project on private investor led timber plantation. The scheme shall not cost financial investment from the government as funding and management shall be coming from the private sector. The scheme will demonstrate the private sector capability to undertake upland development within the context of reforestation.

    PSALM shall adhere to the basic principles of sustainable forest management and the development protocol shall work around a watershed-based integrated ecosystem management approach.
